Batteries
For the best performance, always use a brand new, high quality alkaline battery. Quartz clock movements are reliable and accurate, but they need a truly fresh battery to run properly. A battery that works fine in a remote or toy often isn’t strong enough for a clock, which requires steady power to move the hands, especially the second hand.
Even batteries that are “new” but have been sitting in a drawer for a long time may no longer be fresh enough. We always recommend starting with a battery purchased recently, straight from the shop, rather than relying on spares from an old pack.
Please ensure the battery is inserted the correct way around, following the + and – symbols inside the battery compartment. Inserting it the wrong way can cause the battery to overheat or leak. Likewise, avoid pushing the battery underneath the terminal, as this may create a short circuit.
Battery life also depends on the size and weight of the hands. Light, narrow hands use less power and allow the battery to last longer, while larger or heavier hands — or the addition of a second hand — increase demand on the battery.
To keep your clock accurate and reduce the risk of leakage or corrosion, replace the battery regularly with a fresh alkaline one. In almost every case where a clock runs slow or stops, fitting a brand new, good quality battery solves the problem.
Time Setting
Always set the time using the adjustment dial on the back of the clock. If your clock is open-faced, avoid moving the hands directly, as this can damage the mechanism.
Environment Care
Your clock is designed for indoor use only in domestic and light commercial settings. To protect it from damage, avoid placing your clock in areas with:
- High humidity – bathrooms, kitchens, conservatories, greenhouses, sheds, or near swimming pools.
- Excessive heat – above cookers, radiators, fireplaces, or wood burners.
- Direct sunlight – prolonged exposure can fade, warp, or damage clock materials.
Heat and moisture can cause materials to melt, contract, warp, or corrode, and may loosen the clock hands. Damage caused by these conditions is not covered under warranty.
Corrosion and Rust
If corrosion or rust develops, the clock has been exposed to heat or moisture. While some materials withstand these conditions better than others, all clocks should be kept dry and away from high humidity or direct heat sources. Corrosion damage is not covered by the warranty.
How to Hang a Wall Clock
Our clocks may have a metal hanging rim, a built-in metal bracket, or a moulded acrylic bracket. To hang your clock safely:
- Use a wall fixing suitable for your wall type and the weight of the clock.
- Ensure the wall is strong enough to support the clock.
- Securely anchor the fixing to the wall and make sure it has a large enough lip to prevent the clock slipping off.
If you’re unsure which fixing to use, seek advice from a professional tradesperson.
Care & Cleaning
- Keep your clock dry at all times. Avoid damp rooms, humidity, or condensation.
- Do not expose to extreme cold, heat, or direct sunlight.
- Keep free from dust to protect the movement.
- Clean only with a soft, dry cloth – never use water, cleaning agents, or abrasive cloths.
